When Melissa L. Steinberg graduated from Bowdoin College in 2001, she could never imagine the course her career would take.

After the Massachusetts Department of Education accepted her into a special program to train and license highly qualified teachers, Melissa completed her student teaching at Madison Park High School in Boston, Massachusetts, and obtained licensure as a Social Studies teacher. Then, when her position as a History teacher in suburban Boston was eliminated due to budget cuts, Melissa fulfilled another dream: to work in Hollywood.

While living and working in LA, Melissa became involved in a dispute with a credit card company. Harassing telephone calls and other illegal behavior from the credit card company left Melissa terrified. After researching her legal options, she decided to sue her credit card company. She represented herself – and won!

Newly vindicated, Melissa wanted to help others achieve the same success. She enrolled at Fordham University School of Law, where she was an accomplished student, and became an accomplished lawyer. Although Melissa’s

academic focus was in estate law, Melissa served on the board of the Housing Advocacy Project at Fordham, where she recruited and trained law student volunteers to assist New York City tenants with Housing Court disputes.

In consultation with social workers, physicians, educators and other professionals, Melissa has also advocated for clients before the New York City Department of Education to articulate and secure free, appropriate public educations for special needs students. Melissa has also represented clients before the Internal Revenue Service and obtained favorable settlements of tax disputes. Most recently, Melissa served as general counsel to a bankruptcy trustee in the Southern District of New York, and is well versed in the intricacies of consumer bankruptcies.

Melissa’s broad experience in a number of legal disciplines makes her a formidable advocate for her clients.
